Heating Photo Album: Gas Furnace and Central Air Conditioning Installation in Riverside, NJ
This was an interesting case. The furnace was tucked into the small utility room along with the washer, dryer, and hot water heater. Space was tight but it turned out air was even tighter. You see, all those appliances (except for the washer) consume air. The furnace, water heater, and gas dryer all consume air for combustion. And the dryer actually draws air in from the room, heats it, then exhausts it outside. Similarly, return air leaks in the furnace draw room air into the HVAC system. All of these air consuming appliances lead to negative pressure in the utility room. The result when all are ON is air comes down thru the chimney and the water heater no longer drafts into the chimney, instead, the products of combustion leak into the utility room. Not good! To make it even worse, the furnace, which was right off the kitchen, was really loud when it was running.
The furnace was replaced with an American Standard 97% efficient 2-stage furnace. This variable-speed furnace is virtually silent when it operates especially when only the first stage is running. For 80% of the winter this furnace will run at 50% capacity so a soft, gentle heat comes on for long cycles that really improve comfort. The American Standard air conditioner is also 2-stage so it tuns at low capacity and really dehumidifies the air for the majority of the summer. Both systems carry 10-year parts and labor warranties. American Standard HVAC equipment not only looks great but it is a premium quality product.
Old, Noisy Furnace
You can see how tight this space is. Replacing the furnace and cleaning up some of the clutter makes it easier to service the new furnace.
New American Standard Gas Furnace
Wow! That looks so much better and is so much more efficient than the old furnace.
Old Central Air Conditioner
It had a long life, but this unit was really costing the client a fortune every summer to operate. Is that poison ivy between the AC and the house?
New American Standard Air Conditioner
That's a beautiful installation. This unit is very quiet when operating especially on low stage when it' almost silent. At 17 SEER2 it's also very efficient.
