Hi. My husband and I bought a house two weeks ago. We had been in the house twice before buying, and the air quality was great (one of the reasons we bought it). When we started moving in the house had a strong chemical odor. We thought it was from being closed up. We got the AC units going, and in the last week the smell has gotten better in most of the house; however, it is still really strong in Den/Kitchen area and can sometimes get into bedroom above (all in back of house). The seller did four things before moving to meet sales agreement. Had empty oil removed near front of house. Had a pest/termite treatment done, patched a wall in the den, and put new insulation in crawlspace under den/kitchen. I spoke with seller about the odor, and he said it could be from the insulation. After some research, I found insulation can cause an odor. The problem is I have a health condition and the odor is affecting my lungs. Would it be possible to have someone come out to confirm the odor is the insulation? If it is--it needs to be replaced with something non-odorous ASAP! Your help is greatly appreciated. This is a bit of a health-related emergency situation. Thanks. :)
